MBODY is a musician-first performancewear studio creating innovative garments that support freedom of movement, reduce injury risk, and enhance artistic expression. Conceived in partnership with leading designers and inspired by collaborations with the Baltimore Symphony project, MBODY continues that legacy with a bold new vision for the future of concert attire.
This vision began with conductor Leonard Bernstein, who imagined clothing that supports the artistry of performance. It became a reality when conductor Marin Alsop, his protege, initiated six years of research at Parsons School of Design, led by renowned designer Gabi Asfour.Endorsed by the Orchestra Boards of the Richmond and Baltimore Symphonies, their work was recognized as a meaningful advancement in how musicians dress—and perform. Now, MBODY carries on the project to deliver this to all soloists, ensembles, and orchestras.
Musicians are athletes of the arts, but our attire hasn’t caught up.
Traditional performance wear was never designed for movement, expression, or the physical realities of playing an instrument today.
Up to 90% of professional musicians experience musculoskeletal pain during their careers.
54% of orchestral musicians say pain actively interferes with playing
18% have taken sick leave due to it.
